For years, she split her practice in two locations: a trendy downtown Chicago optical, learning the art of boutique-style eyecare, and in the south side of Chicago, working with disadvantaged patients in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases.
Dr. Sonsino brought these varied experiences to Nashville and introduces a new concept in eyecare: Optique. She is recognized by her colleagues as a leader in pediatric optometry, anterior segment, cataract evaluation and specialty contact lens fitting, such as options for astigmatism and “mature” eyes. Dr. Sonsino is a member of the American Optometric Association and Tennessee Optometric Association. She enjoys tennis, running, and traveling the globe to find hot new frame styles for her patients.
On the national scale, he is a diplomate in Cornea, Contact Lenses, and Refractive Technology of the American Academy of Optometry. This 5 year review process is the highest clinical designation in the field of optometry and is achieved only after a grueling series of written, practical, and live patient examination testing by his peers. There are around 120 diplomates worldwide and he is the only one in Tennessee who has achieved this milestone.
Dr. Sonsino is on the American Optometric Association’s Council on Cornea and Contact Lenses. This is a board of six optometrists who set policy and is the leadership of cornea and contact lenses for all optometrists in the U.S. In this capacity, he deals with education of optometrists, issues related to protection of the public, and works with industry partners on patient safety.
After getting married and moving to live in New York, she received her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the State University of New York, where she also completed a Vision Therapy externship program. She had a successful contact lens practice within an ophthalmologic surgical practice in New York for several years before moving to TN.
Prior to joining our staff permanently, Dr. Odes had been filling in at Optique for years. She has a philosophy of patient care and respect that fits exactly with the Optique experience. She is a member of the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians and the Middle Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians. Dr. Odes is married and has one daughter, Jaclyn. She loves to play tennis, snow ski, scuba dive and travel.
He is also a Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT), which is also the highest level in that field. Randy is only one of a few in the nation with both degrees. He spent 15 years at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute as the contact lens specialist and later the clinic coordinator. He and Dr. Jeffrey Sonsino worked closely together for 12 years building his complex contact lens practice there.
He has a passion for teaching and is a regular speaker at the PEARLS meetings. With his interest in complex contact lenses and his knowledge of glasses optics Randy is a valuable asset to the team here at Optique. He is married with 2 children and five grandchildren. His hobbies include woodworking and restoring cars. He plays golf and loves fishing. He is a DIY guy and is currently working on his home here in town.
